  1. Any adult holding a valid reader's pass has the right to use the Library.
     
  2. Any reader holding a permanent reader's pass for the Reading Rooms or a temporary reader's pass issued upon presentation of a valid identification document (i.e. a national identity card, an identity card or passport of another EU country or the passport of a non-EU country) has the right to use the Reading Rooms of the Jagiellonian Library.
     
  3. Borrowing books and the use of the Library Reading Rooms:
     
    1. Academic researchers, postgraduates, day, evening or extramural students of the JU
      • Academic researchers who are members of the JU upon presentation of a national identity card and a JU identity card also have the right to borrow a larger number of books.
      • Other members of the JU upon presentation of a national identity card.
      • Students upon presentation of a national identity card and a student record booklet (showing the student's current academic year status) and an electronic student identity card.
      • Postgraduate students upon presentation of a national identity card, a student record booklet and a valid postgraduate identity card.
      • Any person holding a card with a barcode issued by another JU library should show that card in order to activate it.
         
    2. Foreign students, holders of scholarships and JU postgraduates
      • May borrow books if they are staying in Poland for more than three months, upon presentation of a letter of recommendation from their tutor, together with a passport.
      • Any person holding a card with a barcode issued by another JU library should show that card in order to activate it.
         
    3. Members and day students of other universities in Cracow which have permanent cooperation agreements with the JU.
      • Academic researchers upon presentation of a national identity card and a JU identity card also have the right to borrow a larger number of books.
      • Other employees upon presentation of a national identity card and a "guarantee" (the form is available at the JB Circulation desk and on the JB web site). Permanent residence in Cracow is required.
      • Day students upon presentation of a national identity card and a student record booklet (showing the student's current academic year status);
      • Postgraduate students upon presentation of a national identity card, a student record booklet and a valid postgraduate identity card.
         
    4. Employees of other cultural institutions in Cracow (having some connection with scholarship and science, journalism, public administration, the courts or the health service) who are permanent residents of Cracow may receive a reader's pass which will allow them to borrow books upon presentation of a national identity card and a "guarantee" (the form is available at the JB Circulation desk and on the JB web site).
       
    5. Other permanent residents in Cracow upon presentation of a national identity card may borrow books after paying a deposit.
       
  4. The fee for the issue of a new reader's pass is 10 zloties. The fee for its activation or prolongation is 5 zloties. The fee fora duplicate is 15 zloties.
     
  5. Students holding a digital reader's pass (ELS) pay a fee of 5 zloties.
     
  6. A free temporary reader's pass is issued only once a year upon presentation of a national identity card and gives the owner the right to use the JL Reading Rooms.
Please note:
In conformity with the requirements of the protection of personal data, readers' records are registered with the office of the General Inspector of the Protection of Personal Data.
Prolonging a Reader's Pass:
A reader's pass is valid only until the end of the academic year for which it has been issued or prolonged. An exception is made for readers' passes issued to academics and postgraduate students and also for those reader passes which have been issued for reading rooms only. These maintain their validity until the end of the calendar year. In order to prolong a reader's pass the same documents presented on registration must be presented again.
